Studio policies

Staying Informed:

We work hard to make the dance experience organized and fun. Keeping you informed is one of our primary goals. Please read the handbook carefully as well as any other emails, notices, newsletters and studio information that may be distributed. If you have any questions about the information distributed, please email or call. {Email is our main source of communication. Please make sure we have your current email address on file!}

Medical Information:

Parents must notify the director and teachers of any existing medical conditions or learning disabilities at the time of registration and throughout the school year. Please advise your children's instructor if they are to take any special medication or use an inhaler. The more we know about your children, the better the dance experience will be for all involved. All medical information about our students is confidential.

Classroom Observation:

Each dance studio has a large one-way observation window from which parents and visitors may observe classes. Visitors ARE NOT allowed in the classroom at any time except during in-house performances. Please ask a staff member for assistance if you need to pick up your child early. Please DO NOT open the classroom doors or interrupt classes for any reason other than emergencies. This is very disruptive to both the students and instructors.

***Please note*** our observation rules have been modified for the 2020-2021 school year due to Covid-19 restrictions. Tiny Tots may have one parent per student in the building. Preschool and Primary 1 students may have 2 parents per class (per sign-up) in the building.l There will be no observers for ages Primary 2 and up at this time until further notice.

Attendance:

The spirit of teamwork and the lesson of dedication are a big part of our studio's educational process. All students are expected to attend their regularly scheduled classes. Each class offers a step forward in the the educational process. A missed class could leave a child one step behind the other students. During the months of January through May, choreography for the recital will be taught and rehearsed. It is important for children to feel completely confident with the choreography and the year-end performance. Missing class during this period could result in frustration for the students, their teachers and classmates.

Arrival & Departure:

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are doing drop-off and pick up as follows:

  • Tiny Tots: One parent per student may walk child into the building. This parent may stay for the duration of the class, spread out in the lobby. This parent may also drop off child at the door and wait in the parking lot.

  • Preschool and Primary 1: Two parent volunteers per week may stay in the building during class to help with bathroom needs. All other parents should drop off at the door, in which they may leave or wait in the parking lot. For new Preschool students, we will allow one parent to walk child into the building until they are used to the environment.

  • Primary 2, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and all Dance Company: Drop-off and pick-up at the door only. You may leave or wait in the parking lot during class

For Drop-off and Pick-Up: Please use the drive through lane OR park and walk your child to the door. There is no parking in the drive through lane. Please only line up in this lane at the beginning and end of your child's class time.

Tardiness:

Dance is a physical activity that requires the body to be warmed up in order to execute movement safely. Late students miss the proper warm up and/or barre and therefore may sustain injury. Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late may be asked to observe class for reasons of personal safety.

Illness:

While we appreciate your dedication, we do not want to spread any illnesses. To help protect your own child's health and to minimize the possibility of contagion at the studio, please keep your child home if you observe any of the following symptoms: severe sore throat, consistent cough, diarrhea, vomiting or fever.

  • ***Due to the spread of Covid-19 – we also ask that you check your child’s temperature before

dropping them off at the studio. If your child has shown any symptoms of Covid- 19 or has possibly

been exposed, do not bring them to the studio.***

  • ***All persons age 10 and up must wear a mask at the following times: upon entering and

exiting the building, while waiting in the lobby, in any common areas such as

bathrooms and dressing rooms. Dancers age 10 and up should have a mask handy at all times and

be prepared to put them on as needed, but may remove them during vigorous activity.***

  • ***In the event of another quarantine or shut-down due to Covid-19 or other pandemic,

Expressions Dance Studio will close according to CDC rules and guidelines, at which time we will

switch to online classes until further notice. You will continue to be billed the same monthly

tuition whether classes take place online or in-person. Anyone who withdraws would need

    to re-register based on availability.***

Sanitation Precedures

EDS will be continually cleaning and sanitizing all touch surfaces, bathrooms, counter tops, floors, and props – before and after each class and throughout the day. Students are asked to bring their own hand sanitizer, tissues, and masks and to wash their hands frequently. We will be enforcing social distancing in all classrooms and waiting areas.

Discipline Policy:

In order to maintain a happy, healthy, professional environment, students are taught the importance of being a part of the group. We encourage students to have respect for other students, teachers, staff and studio property. We foster the development of good habits in compliance with rules of conduct. Our staff and faculty are trained to use constructive techniques of discipline to maintain class control and handle individual misbehavior.

Weather Cancellations:

Studio closures due to severe weather conditions will be announced by email, on the studio's outgoing voicemail message and on the studio Facebook page. We usually close in conjunction with Midway ISD, but it is a good idea to check with the studio anyway, in case the weather either clears or worsens.

Lost & Found:

Please mark all dancewear, shoes and personal items with your child's name. The studio is NOT responsible for any lost or stolen items. We suggest that all valuables be left at home and that important belongings are secured in a closed dance bag. Items from the lost and found will be donated to charity on a regular basis.

Studio Safety:

At this time, only students, designated parents, and studio staff are allowed in the building. Siblings of students may not be unattended in the building at any time. Only employees of the studio are allowed in the office areas and staff breakroom/kitchen. Expressions Dance Studio is not responsible for injuries or accidents as a result of unattended children.

The studio is home to children of all ages. Please enter and exit our parking lot with extreme caution. Never park your vehicle in any area that is not a designated parking space, including the drop off/pick up lane. Do not allow any children to play in the parking lot.

Termination of Enrollment:

If you choose to drop a class, you must notify Expressions Dance Studio in writing, otherwise you will continue to be billed for classes. Because tuition is paid monthly, we only accept withdrawl's at the end of each month.

In certain circumstances, when it is in the best interest of one of more students, it may be necessary for the studio owner or director to terminate a student's enrollment. Every effort will be made to correct a problematic situation before terminating enrollment. Reasons for termination of enrollment include the following: disruptive or dangerous behavior by students or their parents; abuse of other children, staff or property; inability of dance studio staff to meet the child's or family's needs.

All of the policies and procedures described above and the handbook are for the safety of the students, the well-being of all families and studio staff and to maintain a positive, welcoming environment at the studio. By registering for classes at Expressions Dance Studio, you are agreeing to all of the aforementioned policies and procedures.

Testimonials

My daughter loves going to dance at Expressions! In her own words- “When I dance I feel like I can be me. When I step out on the stage, I feel confident and strong- not wriggly. My teachers teach me to dance and then I just dance.” I am so glad she has found what makes her heart sing and that we found a studio that brings out the best side of her!

Hallie C.

Sophia very eagerly looks forward to class every single week. The teachers are truly amazing. Hands down the best dance school in the area! We have loved watching her flourish and become a part of the dance company after years of training in her regular classes every week! We love that it gives her a creative outlet and the chance to express herself!
